The Challenge:

Connecting the Real World to the Blockchain. The major challenge here is data veracity: how do you bring a physical event, like a drought, into a closed digital system? To solve this, we designed a hybrid Oracle architecture combining AWS hardware enclaves to certify weather data integrity with formal logic (Sui Move) to translate paper contract clauses into an immutable Smart Contract.

We collaborated to make this underlying complexity invisible to the end user, designing a seamless interface allowing users to subscribe to a policy in just a few seconds, while the backend architecture was secured on the Sui Blockchain.

The result is a functional Proof of Concept where users can subscribe without a traditional bank account via zkLogin. Upon subscribing, they receive an NFT representing their traceable insurance policy. If a claim is validated by the Oracle, the treasury (which is placed in DeFi protocols to generate yield) triggers the payout instantly.

Conclusion:

This project demonstrates how blockchain technology can serve a concrete social cause: financial inclusion for unbanked populations. A prime example is Julius, a farmer in Malawi cited in our research from a recent Guardian article, who could directly benefit from instant, trustless parametric insurance.

However, technical feasibility is only the first step. The real obstacles moving forward remain legal integration and the necessity of systemic reinsurance to effectively absorb large-scale climate risks.
